Summer Lab Assistantship Program

This program is designed for undergraduate and graduate students who are ready to actively participate in a research project for the summer semester. Graduate students, especially those working on their thesis research, can greatly benefit from this program. Junior/Senior undergraduate students enrolled in UH (NSM/CCE) are also welcome. The students will be actively involved in Plant Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Research.

Interested students must apply online using a QR Code or complete the Program Application. Ten positions are available, and selected students must work in the lab for two months (Full time). The following are the benefits:

  • Summer financial support (undergraduate $2,400; graduate $3,200)
  • Project-based learning opportunities in a laboratory environment
  • Participation in Farm Day to visit industries related to Food, Agriculture, and Biotechnology
  • Opportunity to participate in other events such Research Day, Instrumentation Day and Seminars.
  • Improve knowledge and skills in specific areas of plant biotechnology and genetic engineering.

Past Students 2024

Twenty-one students (13 undergraduate and 8 graduate students) participated in experiential and project-based learning opportunities. These students received financial support for the summer months. Each student either worked on an individual project, or continued their research from their capstone class. This program allowed them to enhance their knowledge and skills in plant biotechnology and genetic engineering.
